In 2026 Disney+ is something people keep in the background rather than a place they go to browse. Parents use it to keep kids busy. Adults open it for Star Wars, Marvel, Pixar and The Simpsons, then close it again. September showed the pattern: The Mandalorian and Grogu arrived on September 2, and most of the month's other big titles were Hulu, FX and ABC shows such as Chad Powers, Dancing with the Stars and American Horror Story.
If you want a deep library of prestige drama, Disney+ on its own won't give you that. It is a franchise catalog, and Disney keeps adding general entertainment to it so you won't cancel between Star Wars releases.
What changed in the last few months
June 2026: on June 18 a login failure hit Disney+. Downdetector reports went past 52,000 in about half an hour, and Disney gave no public explanation.
August 2026: new CEO Josh D'Amaro said Hulu subscribers can now link their profiles and manage their subscriptions inside Disney+. He also promised games, merchandise and more personalization starting in spring 2027. The fully unified app, which Disney had promised for the end of this year, is still not finished.
September 2026: Disney announced price increases on most Disney+ and Hulu plans, with ad-free tiers hit hardest. They apply to billing cycles from October 21. Variety counts this as the fourth increase in four years.
Who a shared plan suits, and who should pay full price
A shared seat fits someone who wants the catalog for a binge, watches alone on one screen, and doesn't care whose name is on the account. It is a poor fit for families who rely on kids' profiles and parental controls, for anyone who wants the Hulu integration tied to their own profile, and for anyone who can't live with being locked out halfway through the year.
Be clear about the rules. Disney's terms limit a subscription to one household, and since September 2024 Disney has enforced that with paid sharing and household checks. A resold shared seat can conflict with those terms. The risks are real: verification prompts, forced logouts, or the account being cut off. When that happens your only recourse is the seller, not Disney.
Before you buy
Find out which country the account is registered in. The catalog and the Hulu content you get depend on it.
Ask whether the seller will honor the full twelve months after the October 21 price change, and how quickly they replace a seat that stops working.
