Percy Jackson Hits Netflix. Disney+ Just Lost Its Best Argument
Percy Jackson and all five Ice Age films land on Netflix October 4. Here's who should keep Disney+, who can pause it, and what Disney is really up to.

What's moving to Netflix, and when
What's on Netflix lists the schedule this way. Percy Jackson seasons 1–2 and the five Ice Age films arrive worldwide on October 4. Will Trent seasons 1–4 follow worldwide on November 3. Shifting Gears seasons 1–2 come to US Netflix on December 1, with other regions on January 7, 2027. Tracker seasons 1–3 arrive outside the US on February 26, 2027. A rotating selection of animated films, including Soul, Elio and Raya and the Last Dragon, is due in early 2027. Older series such as Felicity, Revenge, Army Wives, Fresh Off the Boat and This Is Us are also included, but availability varies by region. Laughing Place reports Felicity reaching US Netflix on October 7.

Two details are easy to miss. First, Percy Jackson and Ice Age are on Netflix for limited three-month windows. Disney is using them to build interest before Percy Jackson Season 3 lands on Disney+ on November 20 and before Ice Age: Boiling Point opens in theaters on February 5, 2027. Second, the deal is non-exclusive, so nothing is leaving Disney+ or Hulu.

Our take: Netflix subscribers win, and Disney+ looks like a waiting room
Let's be blunt. When a streamer lends its flagship fantasy series to its biggest rival, it's admitting that the show needs Netflix's audience more than Netflix needs the show. Percy Jackson is exactly the kind of original that was supposed to make Disney+ a must-have. Now seasons 1–2 are a free trailer for everyone already paying Netflix. That makes it much harder to justify Disney+ as a year-round, standalone bill.
The irony writes itself. What's on Netflix recalls that Bob Iger once compared licensing to Netflix to handing over nuclear weapons technology. Disney apparently decided that rival's reach is now too useful to pass up. That's smart business for Disney. For you, it's a signal: Disney's back catalog is now a promotional tool, not a moat.

But don't overcorrect. The windows are deliberately short, and the new episodes stay on Disney's own platforms. Netflix gets the reruns. Disney+ keeps the premieres. Our verdict is that Disney+ is overrated as an always-on subscription and underrated as a service you subscribe to for a month or two. Turn it on for a Season 3 binge, then turn it off.

- Consider pausing if you only rewatch seasons 1–2 or the Ice Age films. Netflix carries them from October 4 for about three months.

Why this matters: the agreement says Disney+ content can vary based on rights availability and your location, and that cancellation takes effect at the end of the current billing period unless Disney discloses otherwise. If you cancel now, you keep access until that period ends. If you want Season 3, time your restart for around November 20.
