Disney+ Gets the Super Bowl. Is It Suddenly a Sports App?
ESPN says every US Disney+ subscriber can stream Super Bowl LXI. One big game isn't a sports plan, though, and Disney's own sales page tells a different story.

Short answer
You get the Super Bowl with Disney+. You don't get a sports service. In an October 7, 2026 release, ESPN said Disney+ will livestream Super Bowl LXI on Sunday, February 14, 2027. It also said all Disney+ subscribers in the US can stream the ESPN and ABC game presentation, and the ESPN Deportes Spanish-language telecast will be available too. Before that, Disney+ will carry two Monday Night Football games. The first is Cowboys at Eagles on Monday, October 26; the second hasn't been announced. The release doesn't break down plan tiers, so it never says whether ad-supported plans are covered.Source: Disney to Stream Super Bowl LXI, Joining ESPN and ABC to Give Fans More Ways to Watch (ESPN Press Room) · 2026-10-08
What Disney actually announced
ESPN's release covers the whole Super Bowl LXI package. The US broadcast team is Joe Buck, Troy Aikman, Lisa Salters and Laura Rutledge. Outside the US, Disney+ will stream the game in more than 55 markets, including Spanish-speaking Latin America, Brazil, the Caribbean, South Africa and Australia/New Zealand, and ESPN's linear channels will carry it in more than 130 countries and territories. Both Monday Night Football games stay on ESPN/ABC as usual, and Disney+ subscribers can stream the English and Spanish broadcasts. The ESPN app still has the full Monday Night Football schedule, the ManningCast and the Super Bowl studio shows.

The awkward part: Disney's own sales page hasn't caught up
When we read Disney+'s Super Bowl landing page today, it was still selling Disney+, Hulu and ESPN Unlimited bundles as the way in. It says Super Bowl Day pre-game coverage on Disney+ starts at 11AM ET for subscribers with an ESPN Unlimited plan. It also says kickoff time, network details and streaming availability "will be confirmed closer to Super Bowl 2027." Hulu + Live TV is listed as another option. The press release says all US subscribers get the game itself. The landing page ties the surrounding coverage to ESPN Unlimited. Expect the pre-game, the studio shows and the ManningCast-style extras to stay with ESPN rather than come with a basic Disney+ plan.

The Content that we make available via any Service Tier is not guaranteed and may be limited and vary over time
Disney+, ESPN, and Hulu Subscriber Agreement, Section 4(e), updated October 17, 2025Source: Disney+, ESPN, and Hulu Subscriber Agreement · 2026-10-08
This clause matters here because the same section lists the terms of your subscription or Service Tier as one reason content can differ. Section 2(k) of the agreement also says ads are served in certain live content and special events. Even if you pay for no ads, assume the Super Bowl will have commercials.

How it compares with the last two Super Bowls
Fox streamed Super Bowl LIX on Tubi, its free, ad-supported service, and The Desk reported that viewers didn't need a cable or satellite login. In February 2026, NBC and Peacock carried Super Bowl LX, with NBCUniversal presenting it in 4K HDR on the same day as its Winter Olympics coverage, according to Sports Video Group.

Our take: this is a smart play by Disney, and calling it "the best sports deal in streaming" is overrated. One game plus two Monday nights is a sample, not a season. Tubi already showed that the Super Bowl can be free with no catch. Disney's real win is putting the year's biggest broadcast on a general-entertainment plan that families already pay for. That's a direct shot at Peacock-style services that use big sporting events to win subscribers. It's a promotion for ESPN Unlimited, and a good one. What annoys us is the mixed messaging: the press release says "all" subscribers while the sales page still pushes bundles. Disney should name the eligible tiers before people start upgrading out of fear.
Before you change plans
- If you already have Disney+ in the US, don't upgrade just for the game. ESPN says all US subscribers can stream it.
- Watch for Disney to confirm whether ad-supported plans are covered. The press release doesn't mention tiers.
- If you want the pre-game, the studio shows or every Monday Night Football game, those sit with ESPN, not basic Disney+.
- Outside the US, check whether your country is on Disney's list of more than 55 markets.
- Expect ads during the game whatever plan you have.
Try it early
Cowboys at Eagles on October 26 is your dress rehearsal. If it plays on your Disney+ plan and your devices, you'll probably be fine in February. Take a few minutes before kickoff to update the app on your TV.
