The import choice

Gamma documents a 200 MB limit per PowerPoint upload. During import, you can request preservation or updated styling and layouts; you can also redesign afterward.

- Our suggested preservation promptWrite: “Import faithfully. Preserve the original slide structure and layouts. Do not redesign.” Treat this as an instruction to check against the result, rather than proof that every element survived.
- Compare before requesting changesKeep the original deck beside the imported version. Review a title slide, your densest slide, and every chart you expect to update. Check text placement, reading order, labels, and whether you can change the intended content.
- Separate redesign into a later passIf preservation is the priority, finish that comparison before asking for visual improvements. For a deliberate redesign, specify the slides and changes you want instead of giving an open-ended “make it better” instruction.
Gamma acknowledges that some imported charts are static images, but its import guide does not identify which chart types or technical conditions cause this. Those images can be moved, resized, and cropped; Gamma’s documented remedy for editable data is to recreate the chart.

- Insert an editable replacementIn the right-hand Insert Menu, choose Charts & Diagrams, then Smart Charts. Alternatively, type /chart in a slide. Choose a chart type to open its editor.
- Enter the source dataEnter values in the editor’s cells. Use column menus to adjust columns and their types. Graph controls handle data labels; Axes and Visuals control presentation.
- Place the rebuilt chartClose the editor with its upper-right X, then drag the chart into position.

Our suggested chart check
For an example chart showing January 12, February 18, and March 15, enter those exact categories and values from your source data. Temporarily change February to 19, inspect the result, then restore 18. Compare labels and units before removing the imported image. If you lack the underlying figures, stop rather than estimating values from bar heights.
For a failed Google Drive import, Gamma says to check that the Drive connector is connected and your Google account authenticated. If it still fails, export the source as .pptx or .docx and import that file.

Our stopping point: finish when the layouts meet your needs and every chart requiring future updates has verified editable data. If the file fallback also fails, retain your original deck and seek help before spending time on redesign.
