A document archive, not a bookstore
In 2026, people use Scribd to find documents someone else already wrote: lecture notes, past exam papers, repair manuals, court filings, research papers, sheet music and slide decks. Scribd, Inc. calls it a knowledge platform with more than 350 million pieces of content uploaded by real people. That's the whole value. Ebooks and audiobooks are in Everand now, which is a separate product. If you're buying Scribd to read novels, you're probably buying the wrong thing.
What changed in 2026
May 2026: Scribd's help center describes Projects, an AI tool that lets you ask questions about documents, summarize them and compare sources. It's still rolling out to select users, on the website only and not in the app. Scribd itself warns that the answers can misread context or be incomplete.
June 2026: Everand and Fable merged into one subscription. Scribd, Inc. says in writing that scribd.com has nothing to do with that deal.
July 2026: Scribd published its Understanding Index. Its pitch is that people trust human-written documents far more than AI summaries. Put simply, Scribd is selling the original document, not the chatbot's summary of it.
August 2026: Everand's plan page states that an Everand subscription does not include Scribd or Slideshare. The split is now official.
September 2026: Scribd updated its Terms of Use. You still must not share your password with anyone, you're responsible for everything done on your account, and Scribd can close accounts at any time without notice.
Shared plans are fine for dipping in and bad for anything you rely on
A shared plan can conflict with Scribd's own terms, which forbid giving your password to anyone. The risk is real: the account can be suspended or closed without warning, and your saved lists, history and access go with it. You also can't control what other people do on the login, and you have no say over which features the account gets.
A shared seat suits someone who needs a handful of documents for one course or project and can live with losing access. Pay full price if you upload your own work, build a library you'd hate to lose, use Scribd for work, or want a subscription that is clearly allowed under the terms.
Before you buy
Check that you want Scribd and not Everand. If you're after books and audiobooks, this isn't the product.
Search Scribd for the exact documents you need before paying. Previews show you whether they exist.
Ask the seller whether you're getting a shared login or your own account, and what happens if the account is suspended partway through.
Don't buy it for the AI Projects feature. It's still a limited, web-only rollout, and it's the least certain part of the product.

Before buying, read the seller's own notes below. They are quoted rather than summarised, warnings included. Whether sharing is allowed at all is decided by Scribd's own terms, which differ by plan and by country and change.

How we read these
Every figure here is read from the seller's own page when the site is built, and stamped with the date it was read. Nothing is estimated and nothing is carried over from yesterday. When a price cannot be read, the row says so instead of showing a zero.
