Documented download path: open your design, choose Share → Download, and select PDF as the file type. Under Advanced Settings, select Flatten PDF, then Download. Canva’s separate PDF guide identifies PDF Standard and PDF Print as export choices. Keep the same PDF type for your comparison.

- 1. Establish a referenceOur suggested check: leave the editable original open and identify one affected heading or paragraph. Record its font name, weight and intended line breaks. Save a screenshot of that area before making changes.
- 2. Compare two exportsKeep the problematic PDF and download a flattened version using the documented path above. Give them distinct filenames, such as brochure-original.pdf and brochure-flat.pdf. Avoid changing the font or other export settings during this comparison.
- 3. Inspect the same passageOpen both PDFs beside the Canva original. Adjust the views until the pages appear approximately the same physical size. Compare letter shapes, boldness, spacing, line endings and clipped characters; then zoom in to inspect the smallest text.
- 4. Record a concrete resultFor example, suppose “Annual report” occupies one line in the original but wraps in the downloaded PDF. Check whether the flattened version restores that line and matches the letter shapes. Record “wrap corrected” or “still different” instead of judging only whether the whole page looks better.
The tradeoff is editability. Canva describes the flattened result as a single image rather than separately editable elements, and distinguishes flattening from compression. Its guidance positions flattening for finalized files; it is not a file-size reduction method.

Suggested stopping point
Stop when the sample matches the original closely enough for your intended use and you accept the flattened output. Retain the editable original for revisions. If recipients need searchable or selectable text, links, or accessibility features, test those requirements separately before accepting the file. If the appearance still differs, stop changing unrelated settings: collect the original screenshot, both PDFs, the affected page and font name, and seek Canva support. For a print job, ask the printer to assess the sample against its own requirements.
