Cannva is a versatile graphic design platform that allows users to easily create professional-looking visuals, including presentations, social media graphics, posters, and more. With its user-friendly drag-and-drop interface and a vast library of templates and design elements, Cannva empowers both beginners and experienced designers to bring their creative ideas to life.

Social posts, slide decks and school handouts, not fine art

In 2026 Canva works less like a design tool and more like an office suite with a template library attached. Most people use it for social posts, presentations, flyers, short videos and classroom material. Canva says it now has 250 million users who make more than a billion designs a month. Its main pitch this year is AI: you describe what you need and get an editable layout in your brand colours. Serious designers still don't use it to replace their pro tools. More and more, they use it as the front door to them.

What changed since spring

April 2026: at Canva Create, the company announced Canva AI 2.0, an offline mode that syncs your changes when you reconnect, background tasks you can schedule, and a rebuilt Print Shop. It also made the Cavalry motion tool free.

May 2026: Figma put its own AI agent inside its design canvas. Canva no longer has AI-assisted layout to itself, and the professional end of the market is contested again.

July 2026: a global outage broke media uploads. Editing and saving kept working, but new images would not upload. If you work to a deadline, remember that date.

September 2026: Canva launched ProSuite, which brings Affinity, Cavalry, Flourish and Leonardo together with more than 100 new features, including InDesign file import and a Claude connector. The awkward part is that the core Affinity and Cavalry tools stay free. Some of the best new professional tools don't need a Canva plan at all.

A shared EDU seat is fine for dabbling and reckless for your income

Be clear about what you are buying: a seat on Canva's Education plan, which Canva offers to eligible K-12 teachers and their students. Canva's terms also say each user needs their own login and that access may not be passed to anyone else. If you are not eligible, a shared EDU seat can conflict with those terms. Canva can remove an account that breaks its terms, along with everything in it, and the person who runs the team can remove you whenever they like.

A shared seat can make sense for a short personal project, a few months of premium templates, or work you could rebuild in an afternoon. Pay full price for your own account if Canva is part of how you earn money, if you manage a brand kit, if clients depend on your files, or if losing access overnight would cost you more than the saving.

Before you buy

First, check whether you need premium at all. The free tier plus the free Affinity and Cavalry tools may already cover you.

Second, ask the seller which features the seat actually includes, especially brand kits and the AI tools you want. Don't assume it matches a personal Pro plan.

Third, find out what happens if the seat is revoked: whether you get a replacement or a refund, and how your designs would be moved.

Fourth, from day one, download local copies of anything you would miss. A team you don't control is not a safe place to store work.
