Captions, talking heads and quick AI fixes, not feature films

In 2026 Filmora is the editor for people who publish often and polish little: YouTube tutorials, talking-head shorts, product demos and course videos. People pick it for the AI tools: auto-captions, background removal, noise reduction and smart scene cuts. It also has a built-in recorder, so one app takes you from capture to export.

It sits between CapCut's phone-first templates and DaVinci Resolve's steep learning curve. If you want to cut a documentary or grade a short film seriously, this is the wrong tool.

What changed between June and September 2026

June 2026: version 15.6 added a teleprompter, Generative Enhance, Pen Tool presets and custom text textures.

July 2026: version 15.7 brought split-screen templates, LUT export, retouching, more masking tools and multi-frame effects.

September 2026: Filmora 16 came out 10 months after Filmora 15. It adds camera tracking, colour masks, 360° reframing, AI Media Analysis (which labels and scores your clips), one-click caption correction and recording of screen, camera and audio together in one take. One reviewer says the plans are the same as in Filmora 15. But people who bought Filmora 15 outright must pay to upgrade, and paid effects now show up all over the interface.

Who a shared plan suits, and who should pay full price

A shared Advanced plan makes sense if you edit a handful of videos a month, can accept that others may be using the same AI credits, and don't need a cloud account you control. Pay full price if clients, deadlines or your channel's income depend on the software.

Be clear about the terms. Wondershare's licence is personal and non-transferable and covers one computer at a time. It says giving the software to multiple users requires a multi-user licence. So a shared plan can conflict with Filmora's own terms. The real risks: you get logged out when someone else signs in, the account gets suspended or revoked, and you lose access mid-project with no help from Wondershare support. If you can't live with that, buy your own plan.

Before you buy

Make sure it really is Advanced. The Basic plan comes with no monthly AI credits.

Ask how the AI credits are shared. Subscription credits last 30 days and unused ones are taken back at renewal. When the fast-mode credits run out, AI jobs drop to a slower queue.

Try your actual workflow in the free version first, including captions, the AI features you need and export. Many effects are paid extras on top of any plan.

Keep your project files and media on your own drive, so losing the account never means losing the work.
