Most people pay for Crunchyroll for one reason: new episodes soon after they air in Japan. The Fall 2026 lineup, announced in mid-September, has more than forty new and returning shows, led by Black Clover Season 2 and The Apothecary Diaries Season 3. Between seasons, the back catalog keeps people subscribed. That catalog shrinks more than the marketing admits, and older titles have dropped out of the North American library without warning.

Mega Fan adds no ads, offline downloads, up to four streams at once and the Game Vault. The Vault used to be a throwaway extra. Now it's a real reason to pick this tier.

What changed in 2026

January 2026: The free, ad-supported plan ended on 31 December 2025. Crunchyroll is now paid-only. On 26 January a global outage hit in the middle of the winter season, and tens of thousands of users reported errors.

February 2026: Crunchyroll announced US price increases on every tier. They applied from each subscriber's next billing date after 4 March.

July–August 2026: The Crunchyroll Store became exclusive to Mega and Ultimate Fan members in August. The store discounts those members used to get were removed.

September 2026: More than a hundred games were added to the Game Vault, which only Mega and Ultimate Fan members can use.

Who should share and who should pay in full

A shared plan makes sense if you mostly watch the weekly simulcast, stream on one screen and can live with a login you don't control. Crunchyroll's terms say an account is meant for one household or a close-knit group. The terms also say that going over the stream or device limits is a material breach, and Crunchyroll can enforce those limits with technical measures. Sharing outside those terms can get you logged out, blocked from streaming or cut off completely, and Crunchyroll owes you nothing when that happens.

Pay in full if you care about your watch history, downloads, store access or game saves, or if losing access mid-season would really annoy you. Staying within the terms is your responsibility.

Before you buy

Check which region the account is in. Catalogs differ by country, and a show you want may not be available there.

Ask how many people share one Mega Fan account. It allows four streams at once. If more people share it, you will run into 'too many streams' errors.

Find out what happens if the account gets locked or the password changes: how fast it's replaced and whether you get a refund.

Decide whether you need your own profile, downloads or store access. If you do, a shared seat is the wrong product for you.
